Been working as a mechanical/metal construction engineer. Would say that math is a very important part of that. Other skills, such as languages, are also certified, as in here in Estonia you have to take several exams to pass high-school.

Most importantly the student has to want to learn. Otherwise I would describe my teaching as very down to earth. Always looking for parallels in real life and trying to make the subject more realistic.
